Natalia Mirzoyan’s animated film ‘Five Minutes to Sea’ has received the grand jury prize at the Animayo International Film Festival taking place in Spain. Animayo is recognized by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a qualifying festival for the Oscars. The winner of the Animayo grand jury prize can bypass the preliminary steps usually required by the Academy to be considered by the Oscars committee for the Best Short Film (Animated) category.
‘Five Minutes to Sea,’ made in 2018 by Petersburg Animation Studio, has already been victorious at many Russian and international festivals. It claimed an IKAR National Animation Prize by winning a special jury prize, took first place in the professional rankings, and won the special Alexander Tatarsky Prize at the Open Russian Festival of Animation in Suzdal.
